Before anyone sends me a nastygram about this, please know that this graphic is posted here for its humor factor, not its theological accuracy. I don’t know about you, but personally I am thankful that being a jerk doesn’t negate God’s grace and mercy in redemption. Which means there will be plenty of us perfected former jerks in heaven. All of us fall into this category at some point in our lives – some are just better at it due to the daily, sometimes hourly practice of the spiritual discipline of jerkiness!
At the risk of overanalyzing a funny joke (Note to those who fail to see the humor: Lighten up!), keep in mind this cartoon was drawn by an individual who, as far as I know, is not a believer. Believers and non-believers alike will laugh at this cartoon for exactly the same reason – because it has the "ring of truth" to it. We’ve all met Christians who were jerks.
We can learn a lot about ourselves and about how we are perceived by listening to what secular sources have to say about us. Robert Burns, the famed Scottish poet said, "Oh the gift that God would g’ie us, to see ourselves as others see us…"
